The employees of Ghana International Air lines have joined the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU).  In June 2010 the Chief Labour officer issued a Collective Bargaining Certificate appointing the ICU as the appropriate representative to conduct collective bargaining on behalf of the employees.

Ghana International Airline (GIA) has been facing some challenges which have led to employees not being paid for almost three months. Anyone would wonder how employees could work for three months and not paid but still find the spirit to work.

Early this month the Union met the Management of the GIA to discuss the way forward regarding the salaries of the employees and how best as a social partner the union can help management out of the difficulties confronting them. The discussions yielded fruitful results; management promised the Union that arrangements have been made to see to the payment of at least one month’s salary to the workers while management finds means of handling the rest of the issues.
