As the new Prime Minister takes office, he find it fit for civil servants to open up Foreign Currency Accounts (FCA) to facilitate payment of relief allowances which were awarded as food hampers by the previous regime and later on redeemed as Cash by the Banks but were not readily accepted by the Civil Servants.
Government of National Unity has been finally put into place and is going to run for sixteen (16) months until the next elections when governmet driven by people Constitutionally would be put into place.
In these appointment of Ministers, some of them are from the Labour Movement.
Lucia Matibenga who is First Vice President was earmarked for Governorship of Masvingo.
Pauline Mpariwa the then former Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Women Advisory Secretary was appointed to be the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare.
A representative from Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA), Mr Simon Chase, who donates sanitary pads to Unions in Zimbabwe made a visit to all Unions and managed to visit some other stations who benefited from the Project.
Male counterparts members complained about their exclusion from benefittinng from the sanaitary pads distribution, which they viewed as discriminatory.
In response, the sponsor representative said the sanitary pads were targeted at women members only but that in future they may consider male members condoms.
Meanwhile, CASWUZ has manged to clinch a deal with Management.
Management and CASWUZ made an agreement to pay relief so that employees would pay schoole fees for their children to schools and pay rentals for January whilst salaries are yet to be negotiated.
CASWUZ HAS MANAGE TO DISTRIBUTE SANITARY PADS TO CASWUZ WOMEN MEMBERS. THIS PROGRAMME IS WORKING AS A TOOL TO ORGANISE AND RECRUIT NEW MEMBERS TO JOIN THE UNION.
CASWUZ DISTRIBUTED SANITARY PADS TO WOMEN WHO HAVE JOINED CASWUZ. THE CAMPAIGN ON "DIGNITY PERIOD" COMMENCED IN 2004 WHICH RESULTED IN SUPPORT FROM BROTHERS AND SISTERS OUTSIDE BOARDERS AND OVERSEAS. SINCE 2006, THE WORKING WOMEN WHO ARE TRADE UNOIN MEMBERS HAVE BEEN RECIEVING SANITARY WARE PERIODICALLY.
THE TRADE UNIONS AFFILIATED TO ZCTU WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR DISTRIBUTING THE PRODUCTS TO THEIR MEMBERS WHILE THE CENTRE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ORDERING THE PRODUCTS ON OUR BEHALF AND MONITORING THE DISTRIBUTION.
THE PROGAMME IS BEING RUN BY OUR CHAIRLADY FOR THE WOMEN' COMMITTEE, MS TECLA MASAMBA IN CONJUNCTION WITH ZCTU WHICH SOURCED THE SANITARY PADS
WE ARE NOW EMBARKING ON AN EVALUATION EXERCISE TO ESTABLISH THE IMPACT OF THE CAMPAIGN, EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROCESSES AND FUTURE PLANS. THE EXERCISE WILL BE DONE USING THE FOLLOWING METHODS:
*QUESTIONNARES THAT WILL BE ADMINISTERED TO INDIVIDUALS
*FACE TO FACE INTERVIEWS WITH INDIVIDUALS AND
*FOCUSED GROUP DISCUSSIONS.
THE EXERCISE IS BEING CONDUCTED AND SO FAR WE HAVE MANAGED TO RECRUIT 89 NEW MEMBERS BOTH FROM TELECOMMS AND POSTALS. ONLY THESE ARE FROM THE CAPITAL CITY OF HARARE AND WE ARE YET TO GET REPORTS FROM OTHER PROVINCES I.E MASVINGO, GWERU , BULAWAYO AND MUTARE.
