The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union (ATGWU), a national trade union based in Kampala, Uganda whose focus is labour and worker rights issues, is seeking to recruit Assistant Resource Centre Coordinators (ARCC) for various project sites run by the Union in the towns of Busia, Malaba and Katuna. With funding from USAID, ATGWU collaborates with the Solidarity Center (SC) and Family Health International (FHI) to implement ROADS project, a regional HIV/AIDS Program targeting the mobile groups and communities along the northern transport corridor. ATGWU interventions include setting up and running resource centres at strategic SafeTStops a long the corridor in Uganda for the long distance truck drivers and affiliated communities they interact with.
These positions are based at the various project sites, but may involve day return travel to outlying areas on project outreach work.
Major Program Responsibilities of the Assistant Resource Centre Coordinator
Assists the Resource Centre Coordinator in developing and implementing activity/work plans.
Provides technical and programmatic support and guidance to Peer Educators.
Undertakes training, mentoring and supervision of Peer Educators.
Represents the Resource Centre Coordinator in undertaking project activities including meetings with ROADS II partners as assigned.
Receives and handles visitors to the Resource Centre.
Basic Qualifications and Experience
The ARCC should posses a minimum qualification of a certificate in social work, education or community health. Two (2) years experience in HIV/AIDS and/or health related community development work is necessary. S/he must have good interpersonal skills so as to interact freely with the project target groups who come from the various countries. The applicant must posses adequate verbal and written communication skills in English, Swahili and Luganda. Computer literacy in Word processing and Excel spread sheet is an added advantage.
The Assistant Resource Centre Coordinator reports to the Resource Centre Coordinator for the respective Resource Centre.
