ATGWU will be privileged to host two important conferences for the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF). It will host ITF Road Transport Workers' Section Conference and related meetings, in Kampala (Uganda), as from 28 September-2 October 2009<!--[endif]-->
The first Meetings will be the African Regional Conference of the Road Transport Workers' Section that will be held as from Monday 28 to Tuesday 29 September 2009. This meeting is for African ITF road transport affiliates only.
The second conference will be the Global ITF Road Transport Workers' Section Conference that will take place as from Wednesday 30 September to Friday 2 October 2009 both days inclusive.
The venue for all the meetings will be Speke Resort and Conference Centre, Munyonyo – KampalaUgandahttp://www.spekeresort.com/
The Conference will discuss "Organising Globally - Fighting for Our
Rights" as its main theme. The Section Steering Committee meeting in
March in Brussels Belgium stressed that the agenda should cover both passenger and freight transport issues and consider the following topics: (a) International solidarity and campaigns (Iran and Turkey); (b) Effects of neo-liberal policies in road transport and the ITF's response; (c) Health and safety, including violence at work and HIV/AIDS; (d) Precarious and
unprotected workers; (e) Container cargo safety and workers in the
supply chain; (f) Policy and strategy towards unionisation of
international drivers; (g) Passenger and logistics multinational
companies; (h) Review of International Road Transport Action Week; (i)
Relationship with the international organisations; (j) Women workers;
(k) Young workers.
Unions attending the Conference will be responsible for the travel and
living expenses of their delegates.
